Rose Finn-Kelcey, Angel, 2004

Commissioner: Art and Sacred Places

Host: St Paul's Church, Burdett Way, London E3

While working for Artwise Curators, Helen Hayward and I began project managing a temporary, site-specific commission with artist, Rose Finn-Kelcey. Through discussion and engagement with the Vicar, Duncan Ross, the congregation and members of the local community, the artist developed her proposal for an installation on the west facade of the 1960's listed building. For five months Angel became a land mark in Tower Hamlets. St Paul's is still refered to 'the angel church'.

For full information, credits, a short film of the project, essays and responses visit the web-catalogue at <www.smsangel.org.uk>.

Angel was selected as one of the 'best practice' examples featured in the ACE and CLP publication Open Space: Art in the public realm in London 1995-2005 (2007).
